JOE HEADSHOT 3-1-26_edited_edited.jpg

Originally from San Diego, California, Joe now lives and works in Chaska, Minnesota with his wife, where the landscapes of the Upper Midwest continue to shape and inspire his work. As an avid oil painter, he spends much of his time hiking and camping, immersing himself in the environments that influence his artistic vision and practice. These experiences in nature serve as both reference and reflection, informing the atmospheric qualities that define his paintings.

Through oil painting, Joe explores the emotional resonance of the landscape, focusing on the interplay of light, color, and atmosphere. His work is driven by a fascination with the fleeting moments in nature—the shifting glow of evening light across a valley, the quiet stillness of wooded trails, or the expansive calm of open skies. These subtle transitions in light and shadow become central elements in his compositions, shaping the mood and depth of each piece.

Blending representational structure with expressive and abstract passages, Joe creates paintings that move beyond literal depiction. Layers of color, texture, and gesture invite viewers to experience the landscape not just visually, but emotionally- encouraging a sense of immersion and discovery. The balance between realism and abstraction allows each work to retain a sense of mystery, echoing the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of the environments that inspire it.

At its core, Joe’s work reflects a deep appreciation for the natural world and its quiet power. His paintings celebrate the beauty, complexity, and resilience of the landscape while offering moments of stillness and contemplation for the viewer. Through his work, he hopes to encourage a renewed awareness of the environments around us and to inspire others to pause, look closely, and reconnect with the simple yet profound experiences found in nature.
